Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon size tracers

چکیده

Abstract We examine the dependence of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) band intensity ratios as a function average number carbon atoms and assess their effectiveness tracers for PAH size, utilising data, models, tools provided by NASA Ames Infrared Spectroscopic Database. To achieve this, we used spectra from mixtures PAHs different ionisation fractions, following size distribution. Our work, congruent with earlier findings, shows that include 3.3 μm provide best small-to-intermediate sized PAHs. In addition, find sum 15-20 features (I$_{\Sigma _{15-20}}$) 6.2 or 7.7 bands also serve good in case PAHs, objects under similar distribution presented models. For distributions, application scaling factor to I6.2/I$_{\Sigma _{15-20}}$ ratio can estimates population within sources. Employment I7.7/I$_{\Sigma be particular interest JWST observations limited only ∼5-28 MIRI(-MRS) coverage.

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon selected galaxies

Context. This is the fourth in a series of papers based on the ISOCAM Parallel Survey at 6.7 μm. While the first three papers have been devoted to active galactic nuclei (AGN), here we report on emission-line galaxies without AGN signatures in their optical spectra. Aims. Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) emission has been found in both starbursts and modestly starforming galaxies, but the ...

Biological effects of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon derivatives.

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are included in various environmental pollutants such as airborne particles and have been reported to induce a variety of toxic effects. On the other hand, PAH derivatives are generated from PAHs both through chemical reaction in the atmosphere and metabolism in the body.PAH derivatives have become known for their specific toxicities such as estrogenic/an...

Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbon Far-infrared Spectroscopy

The far-IR characteristics of astrophysically relevant polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) averaging in size around 100 carbon atoms have been studied using the theoretical spectra in the NASA Ames PAH IR Spectroscopic Database. These spectra were calculated using density functional theory. Selections of PAH species are made, grouped together by common characteristics or trends, such as siz...

Closed-shell polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon cations: a new category of interstellar polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons.

Density functional theory has been employed to calculate the harmonic frequencies and intensities of a range of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) cations that explore both size and electronic structure effects on the infrared spectroscopic properties of these species. The sample extends the size range of PAH species considered to more than 50 carbon atoms and includes several representative...

Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbon Emission in the 15–21 Micron Region

Observations from the Spitzer Space Telescope have drawn attention to spectroscopic structure longward of 15 mm that is associated with objects showing prominent unidentified infrared (UIR) bands in the mid-IR. If polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are indeed responsible for the UIR features, longer wavelength emission arising from out-of-plane PAH skeletal vibrations is required. Here we ...
